Description:
Almost Uncirculated 1841-D Two and a Half
1841-D $2 1/2 AU50 NGC. Variety 2-C. Only 4,164 pieces were struck of the 1841-D, and yet it is the most "easily" obtained of the three D-mint quarter eagles from 1840 to 1842, even though all three have comparable mintages. It ranks as 5th of the 20 Dahlonega quarter eagles in terms of high grade rarity and is rarely seen in AU condition. This piece is well defined for the grade. The surfaces are actually cleaner than usually found but there are still a few small abrasions and a planchet void is present. Original color and surfaces with light reddish patina surrounding the devices. (Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 25GF, PCGS# 7722)
