Description:
1841-D Quarter Eagle, AU58
One of the Finest Known
1841-D $2 1/2 AU58 NGC. CAC. Variety 2-C. In overall rarity among Dahlonega quarter eagles, Doug Winter rates the 1841-D fifth of 20 issues, and in high-grade rarity it is also ranked fifth of 20, with only seven to nine pieces believed known in AU grades.
The 1841-D quarter eagle is generally sharply struck, and this qualifies for that definition. Rich golden-orange color characterizes this coin, and the fields are unusually bright. The most distinctive pedigree identifier on this example is a die crack from the eagle's right breast down through the I of AMERICA to the rim. Also, a horizontal mark is seen across the base of Liberty's neck. NGC has graded just three Mint State pieces finer, and PCGS only two (1/12).
Ex: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2004), lot 2156; Dallas Signature (Heritage, 10/2008), lot 1920.(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 25GF, PCGS# 7722)

If my clients were to auction something of significance, having Mike as the auctioneer would be a deal maker as far as I am concerned.
