Description:
1848-D Quarter Eagle, MS63
One of the Finest Certified
1848-D $2 1/2 MS63 PCGS. Deep reddish patination on this Select example is imbued with a considerable amount of lilac, especially over the high points, and a tinge or two in the fields. Excellent mint luster is seen over both sides, a notable attribute of the 1848-D. The design features exhibit about as close a full strike as seen on a Dahlonega Mint quarter eagle. A couple of shallow, inoffensive marks on the obverse take little away from this coin's eye appeal.
Collectors seeking a high grade example of this issue will locate nothing finer. Indeed, neither NGC nor PCGS has graded any 1848-D quarter eagle higher. An excellent specimen for a high-grade type or date collection. Population: 6 in 63, 0 finer (9/11).(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 25HC, PCGS# 7751)
