Description

Rare 1854-C Quarter Eagle, MS61

1854-C $2 1/2 MS61 NGC. Variety 1. An apricot-gold example of this low mintage Charlotte issue. A minimal mintage of 7,295 pieces suggests bullion depositor preference for the half eagle denomination. This piece is unabraded and displays the usual C-mint incompleteness of strike on the central reverse. The obverse has a railroad rim between 9 and 4 o'clock, as struck. Shallow strike-throughs (as made) cause a slightly granular surface on the fields near the bust tip and behind the eagle's neck. Census: 8 in 61, 10 finer (2/13).(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 7J2P, PCGS# 7770)
