Description

Low-Mintage MS61 1855-C Quarter Eagle
A Charlotte Classic

1855-C $2 1/2 MS61 PCGS. Variety 1. Sole die pair for the year, used to strike the lowest-mintage Charlotte quarter eagle issue (3,677 pieces). This MS61 coin has a far better appearance than most survivors; while striking weakness is present at the centers, particularly on the reverse, Liberty's hair shows above-average definition, and many stars have their centrils. Yellow-gold surfaces are brightly lustrous with amber overtones. There are no marks of any individual significance, though numerous wispy abrasions combine to account for the grade. Population: 4 in 61, 3 finer (8/11).
