Description:
Unabraded Choice AU 1859-D Quarter Eagle
Low-Mintage Final Dahlonega Issue
1859-D $2 1/2 AU55 PCGS. CAC. Variety 21-M. The 1859-D was the final Dahlonega quarter eagle and a significant issue for specialists of Southern branch mint gold, since its low mintage of only 2,244 pieces ensures that high-quality survivors are rare. The present coin, although a tad softly struck on the lower half of the eagle, is otherwise surprisingly sharp. The reverse legends are moderately strike-doubled. This unabraded honey-gold piece has a fresh appearance and an impressive complement of mint luster. Population: 18 in 55, 25 finer (11/11).
Ex: Dallas Signature (Heritage, 11/2005), lot 2378.(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 25JM, PCGS# 7789)
