1862/1 $2 1/2 MS62 PCGS. FS-301....
High-End 1862/1 Quarter Eagle, MS621862/1 $2 1/2 MS62 PCGS. FS-301. What is under the 2 in the date? Though the 1862/1 is traditionally listed as an overdate, considerable controversy exists over its true nature. Regardless, the variety is popular and forms a small subset of the issue, which has a mintage that does not reach six figures. The present MS62 example is one of just two 1862/1 quarter eagles graded at that level by PCGS, with none numerically finer (8/11). Bold yellow-orange luster swirls around well-defined devices, and though the fields show wispy abrasions, the only flaw warranting individual mention is a line near stars 12 and 13 on the obverse.
