Description:
Very Scarce Mint State 1876-S Quarter Eagle
1865-S $2 1/2 MS62 PCGS. Total mintage for this issue was 23,376 coins, however, nearly all entered circulation. Unlike the double eagles of this issue, these small gold coins are extremely rare today. In fact, PCGS has only certified six Mint State examples, with only two of those finer than this one. No examples were recovered in the S.S. Brother Jonathan treasure dispersed a few years ago. This is a lovely example with full luster and attractive yellow-gold color. Traces of orange toning add to the overall appeal. Population: 2 in 62, 2 finer (8/05).(#7802) (Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 25K6, PCGS# 7802)
