Description

Rare Mint State 1870 Quarter Eagle

1870 $2 1/2 MS61 NGC. An impressive Mint condition example with prooflike fields and rich greenish-gold color. All of the design elements on both sides are exceptionally well defined. Heavy circular die finish lines are visible on the obverse devices, appearing almost like concentric lathe lines. This is an extremely important opportunity for the advanced collector to acquire a nice Mint State example of the date. In fact, only one finer example of this date has been certified by NGC. It is a low mintage issue from a total production of just 4,555 coins, a figure that includes 35 Proofs. Most of the survivors are lower quality examples. Population: 4 in 61, 1 finer (10/05).(#7811) (Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 25KF, PCGS# 7811)
