Description

Low Mintage 1885 Quarter Eagle MS62

1885 $2 1/2 MS62 PCGS. A typically bold and moderately prooflike piece that is kept from a higher Mint State rating by a few wispy slide marks to the right of the portrait. As with all quarter eagle issues from this and the following decade, production was extremely limited. Only 800 business strikes were issued in addition to 87 proofs. Most of the approximately one hundred survivors are in AU grades, which indicates that the bulk of survivors eventually went into non-numismatic hands. Population: 5 in 62, 13 finer (3/06).
