Richly Colored and Conditionally Scarce 1893 Quarter Eagle1893 $2 1/2 MS66 PCGS. Produced in limited numbers (30,000 business strikes), this late date Liberty Quarter Eagle probably did not see extensive circulation. It is easy to comprehend, therefore, why the 1893 is rare in grades below the XF level of preservation. On the other hand, examples in the finest Mint State grades (those above MS65) are also elusive. This is an attractive, original Gem whose otherwise reddish-gold surfaces reveal a bisecting swath of powder-blue tinting through the central obverse. Sharply struck with minimal abrasions and a well concealed spot at the LI in LIBERTY. Population: 10 in 66, 0 finer (1/03). (NGC ID# 25LH, PCGS# 7845)
