Description

Gem Full Bands 1942/1-D Dime
Untoned Quicksilver Surfaces

1942/1-D 10C MS65 Full Bands PCGS. CAC. FS-101. Mint State examples of the 1942/1-D are elusive, with or without Full Bands; the usual survivor is a circulated example in the Very Fine to Almost Uncirculated range. The Denver Mint struck some 60.7 million examples of the 1942-D dime (including an unknown number of the overdate), compared to more than 205 million examples of the 1942-P and its overdate counterpart.

This satin-finished example of the 1942/1-D shows no trace of color over surfaces that host a quicksilver gleam. The sharp strike and impeccable preservation qualify this piece for one of the finest sets and fussiest collectors. Population: 16 in 65 Full Bands, 15 finer (2/13).
From The Jim O'Neal Collection.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 23K6, PCGS# 5041)
