Description

1887 Morgan Dollar, Partial E Reverse, MS63
Sole Finest Certified, VAM-1B

1887 $1 Partial E Reverse MS63 PCGS. VAM-1B, R.6. A Hot 50 Variety. VAMWorld.com writes, quoting Jeff Oxman, "Acquiring an 1887 with a clashed E is considered a landmark event by most variety specialists ... ." Besides the clashed partial E below the tail feathers, the obverse shows a lateral die crack through 887 in the date. Other wispy die cracks connect much of the peripheral elements on the obverse. Die clashing appears (unsurprisingly, given the variety) on other areas of the reverse. This is nice, untoned, flashy and frosty example for the grade. It also happens to be the sole finest certified of the variety at PCGS (3/14). (Variety PCGS# 134003, Base PCGS# 7172)
