Superb Gem 1888 Morgan Dollar1888 $1 MS67 PCGS. The 1888 Morgan dollar enjoyed a huge mintage of more than 19 million pieces, and the date was well represented in the Treasury releases of the 1960s, making it an available issue in most grades today. Superb Gems are rare, however, as many specimens are hampered by weak strikes and dull luster.
The present coin is an exceptional Superb Gem that displays intense luster and well detailed design features. Mostly brilliant, except for a spectacular crescent of cobalt-blue, golden-brown, and lavender toning at the upper left obverse and corresponding area of the reverse. Close inspection reveals pleasingly smooth surfaces. Population: 14 in 67, 0 finer (5/11).(Registry values: P2, N4719) (NGC ID# 2555, PCGS# 7182)
