Description

1889-CC Dollar, MS62
Brilliant and Semiprooflike

1889-CC $1 MS62 NGC. The 1889-CC Morgan dollars were the first struck after Carson City reopened after its four-year hiatus from 1886 through 1889. The original production of 350,000 silver dollars was later reduced by melting of a large portion of the issue. Today collectors prize 1889-CC dollars in any grade. In the higher circulated grades and the Mint State levels, they are not only prized, but they are also exceptionally well-made and boldly struck, sometimes appearing with semiprooflike, prooflike, or occasionally even deep mirror prooflike surfaces. Bowers writes that the luster "varies from rather shallow and satin-like to frosty, but usually not deeply frosty." This is one of the pieces that shows significant reflectivity in the fields. The surfaces are brilliant, the strike strong throughout, and there are a few small abrasions peppered mainly over the portrait of Liberty.(Registry values: P9, N4719) (NGC ID# 2559, PCGS# 7190)
