Description:

1893-S Dollar, Brilliant AU55 Example
Significant Remaining Luster
1893-S $1 AU55 PCGS. Most survivors of the 1893-S Morgan dollar appear to have circulated for a relatively brief period, judging by the appearance of the coins, long enough to have ended up with wear placing them somewhere in the VF20-VF35 grade range. Nonetheless, we at Heritage frequently see (and are glad to offer, such is their popularity) outliers on either side of that range, XF-and-higher examples as well as Fine-or-less survivors. All pieces find ready buyers, especially if they are free of major problems, as the Morgan dollar series is among the most widely collected in the entire U.S. series. This example saw very little handling in the channels of commerce. The luster is just thin in the fields and there is slight evidence of rub over the high points on each side. The surfaces are brilliant and in general lightly marked, except for two shallow, parallel scratches in the lower right obverse field.(Registry values: P10, N4719) (NGC ID# 255U, PCGS# 7226)
