Very Rare 1893-S Dollar, MS63 Condition1893-S $1 MS63 NGC. The low mintage years from 1893 through 1895 are by far the most difficult three for any collector of Morgan Dollars. But of all the issues in those years the 1893-S stands head and shoulders above the rest as the rarest, and not coincidentally also the rarest in the entire series. Only 100,000 pieces were originally struck with most of this mintage entering circulation. Just a couple of dozen pieces are believed extant today in all Uncirculated grades. This is a solid Mint State example that has bright, lustrous surfaces. The reverse has a confirmed semi-reflective finish, while the obverse shows just a hint of brightness in the fields. Sharply defined throughout, the surfaces are mostly brilliant with a faint dab of golden-russet color here and there. A couple of diagonal streaks of grease were struck into the planchet at the time of production on the upper reverse around the eagle's head. Sure to be of great interest to collectors of this widely collected series. Population: 5 in 63, 9 finer (4/03). (NGC ID# 255U, PCGS# 7226)
