Restrike 1838 Pattern Half Dollar, Judd-731838 P50C Half Dollar, Judd-73 Restrike, Pollock-77, R.5, PR64 NGC. The obverse depicts a draped bust of Liberty facing left with thirteen stars around the periphery and the date below. Liberty is wearing a diadem and the scroll over her hair is inscribed with LIBERTY. A flying eagle facing left dominates the reverse. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination HALF DOLLAR are around the periphery. Struck in silver with a reeded edge, medallic alignment of the dies. The presence of moderate to heavy die breaks on the reverse confirms this coin's status as a restrike, circa 1858 or later. Sparkling fields and champagne-apricot iridescence are evident at all angles, as well as the sharply impressed features. There are no mentionable handling marks, a shallow planchet void (as struck) is noted in the field before the bridge of Liberty's nose. (PCGS# 11288)
