Lovely 1838 Half Dollar, Judd-721838 P50C Half Dollar, Judd-72, Pollock-75, R.5, PR63 PCGS. This is William Kneass' design although this was probably executed by Christian Gobrecht. The obverse is similar to the Capped Bust design of prior years, although of a different style, and the face is similar to that found on 1839 and later Liberty Eagles. The reverse features an eagle with head left and wings pointed down, strongly reminiscent of William Barber's regular issue Trade Dollar reverse. Struck with medal turn in silver with a reeded edge. Toned in lilac and ocean-blue colors with a bold strike and a few wispy hairlines on each side. (PCGS# 11282)
