Description

Popular 1838 Half Judd-73 Restrike

1838 P50C Half Dollar, Judd-73 Restrike, Pollock-77, R.5, PR64 NGC. The beautiful designs for Judd-73 proved to be a collector favorite during the 19th century, and the Mint produced restrikes from the original dies for some years thereafter. Many of these are softly struck in the centers and feature heavy die cracks on the reverse. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. This piece has a good strike and relatively light reverse die cracks, which suggests it is a relatively early restrike. The flashy fields are well preserved and display peach, apple-green, and aqua-blue when rotated beneath a light. Certified in a prior generation NGC holder. (NGC ID# 296N, PCGS# 11288)
