Popular 1838 Pattern Half Dollar, Judd-73 Restrike1838 P50C Half Dollar, Judd-73 Restrike, Pollock-77, R.5, PR64 PCGS. A draped bust of Liberty faces left and wears a diadem. A ribbon in her hair is inscribed LIBERTY. The reverse is similar to that of the Gobrecht Dollar, although the eagle's beak is open and its neck is wider. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. The dies have medallic alignment. The heavy die cracks confirm the restrike status. Well struck for the issue, however, with only a hint of weakness on the highest point of the design. Rich lavender-gray and cobalt-blue patina. A few hairlines are seen in the fields as the coin is turned under a light.(#11288) (PCGS# 11288)
