Description

Beautifully Toned PR63 1850 Three Cent Silver Pattern, Judd-125

1850 P3CS Three Cent Silver, Judd-125 Original, Pollock-147, R.4, PR63 PCGS. On the obverse, a glory of rays surrounds a cap inscribed LIBERTY, with the date below. On the reverse, a palm branch encircles the denomination III with the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around. Struck in silver with a plain edge. The obverse was originally designed by Christian Gobrecht for the 1836 gold dollar, and this later variant was executed by Franklin Peale from designs by Longacre. This is a lovely example that transcends the PR63 grade. The fields are bright with mirror-like reflectivity. Both sides are generally light in color with occasional dabs of multicolored iridescence that adds even more to the overall visual appeal of this widely collected pattern. (NGC ID# 298G, PCGS# 11536)
