Attractive Gem Proof 1850 Trime Pattern, Judd-1251850 P3CS Three Cent Silver, Judd-125 Original, Pollock-147, R.4, PR65 NGC. Ex: Eliasberg. On the obverse, a glory of rays surrounds a cap inscribed LIBERTY, with the date below. On the reverse, a palm branch encircles the denomination III with the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around. Struck in silver with a plain edge. When this piece was offered as lot 156 of the May 1996 Eliasberg sale, the description emphasized its patina. "Golden gray and gunmetal-blue iridescence" remains an apt description of the surfaces of this diminutive but immensely appealing Gem, and its strong luster and provenance make it all the more desirable.
