Description:
Judd-161 1854 Cent Pattern, PR64 Brown
1854 P1C One Cent, Judd-161 Original, Pollock-187, R.4, PR64 Brown NGC. The design resembles the Mature Head large cent with no stars, and the reverse wreath and diameter are each smaller. Struck in bronze with a plain edge. Originals and restrikes are mentioned of the Judd-161, but nothing is published regarding how to tell the difference. We suspect it has to do with the pimply evidence of die rust, as seen on this coin, which is absent on the other Judd-161 in this sale. The surfaces have deep, uniform chocolate-brown color except for the slightest streaks of red on the reverse, but a magnifier will be required to discern them. The piece is nice for the grade, with no mentionable problems. (PCGS# 11663)
