Description

1855 Flying Eagle Cent Pattern, PR61
Judd-170a, 86% Copper, 14% Nickel

1855 E1C Flying Eagle Cent, Judd-170a, Pollock-196, Low R.7, PR61 PCGS. 111.9 grains. A turkey-necked eagle flies west, while the reverse has a design similar to the contemporary large cent. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge. This example consists of 86% copper and 14% nickel, according to PCGS. An elusive pattern whose actual rarity is inconclusive because the design was struck in many different but similar compositions. Mirrored light tan surfaces host iridescent toning on each side. Somewhat ill-defined due to the composition, with clash marks evident on each side. A few small marks are expected. (PCGS# 11732)
