Description

Low Date, Five Leaves 1858 Pattern Cent
Rare Judd-208 Variant, PR64

1858 P1C Indian Cent, Judd-208, Pollock-253, R.1, PR64 NGC. Indian head cent as adopted in 1859, struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge. Two obverse and two reverse dies were used to strike these pattern cents. This is the rare variant with a low date and clusters of five leaves. Only a half dozen pieces are estimated known. This is a lovely example that has much reddish color on each side and peripheral blue on the obverse. The strike is a bit soft, as often seen on copper-nickel cents. The only mentionable flaw is located on the obverse rim at 6 o'clock and is of Mint origin.
From The Classic Collection. (NGC ID# 29BP, PCGS# 11885)
