Rare 1859 Twenty Dollar Pattern in Copper, Judd-2581859 P$20 Twenty Dollar, Judd-258, Pollock-308, High R.7, PR64 Brown PCGS. The obverse of this rarely offered Double Eagle pattern features the regular issue Coronet design by Longacre, but with the date omitted below. On the reverse, 20 DOLLARS, 1859, and the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA are within a very heavy oak and laurel wreath, a design credited to Anthony Paquet. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. This well mirrored specimen comes alive when tilted at angle with flashes of blue and rose iridescence. A few small carbon spots are detected on the obverse, the most distracting following the Y in LIBERTY. Formerly part of the memorable Rudy Sieck Collection of patterns sold by Bowers & Ruddy at the 1981 ANA. (PCGS# 12028)
