'Broken Ribbon' Judd-235 1859 Half Dollar, PR631859 P50C Half Dollar, Judd-235, Pollock-282, 284, R.5, PR63 PCGS. The obverse depicts Anthony Paquet's design with a seated figure of Liberty facing to the left, a fasces supported by her right hand and a shield by her left hand. Around the periphery there are 13 stars and below, the date. The reverse has an eagle and shield in the center with olive and arrows in the claws. The beak holds a ribbon inscribed E PLURIBUS UNUM. Around, the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA with the denomination HALF DOLLAR below. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. Two variants are known of this pattern. This piece is from the "Broken Ribbon" dies and shows broken wingtips and sets of three vertical lines in the shield. The bright surfaces are mostly brilliant with scattered russet and blue toning around the margins.
