Low Date, PR63 Brown
Design. The obverse and reverse are the regular Liberty Head eagle dies of the year, with GOD OUR TRUST added in the reverse field, no scroll. Struck in copper with a reeded edge.
Commentary. Like the Judd-284 and 285 pattern eagles (with scroll), the no-scroll copper Judd-287 eagle patterns come in Low Date (Pollock-342) and High Date (Pollock-344) variants, this being the Low Date. (The gold Judd-286 is unconfirmed.)
Physical Description. Low Date. Pollock notes concerning this piece that it is a bronzed proof with a die rotation of 300 degrees. The blue-brown surfaces show considerable brightness over the high points of the design. A few tiny lint marks are scattered in the fields on each side. NGC Census: 2 in PR63 Brown, 2 finer. PCGS Population: 2 in PR63 Brown, 4 finer (12/08).
