Description

Bronze 1863 Indian Cent Pattern, Judd-299, Gem Proof

1863 1C One Cent, Judd-299, Pollock-359, R.3, PR66 Brown NGC. An experimental piece struck from the regular dies but without the L on the ribbon. Struck in bronze with a plain edge. Medallic alignment of the dies. This pattern represents the Mint's first experiment with bronze coinage. For some reason, these patterns are seldom found with full red color. This piece has deeply mirrored fields with equally deep brown and blue patina over each side. A well-balanced and attractive pattern. (PCGS# 60454)
