Interesting 1863 Three Cent Pattern Struck in Copper, Judd-3191863 3C Three Cents, Judd-319, Pollock-384, R.5, PR66 Brown NGC. The obverse is similar to the Braided Hair large cent design that the Mint discontinued in 1857, only with the substitution of a markedly smaller date. The reverse displays 3 CENTS in the center surrounded by a laurel wreath with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA about the border. Struck from slightly rotated dies in either bronze or copper with a plain edge. This razor-sharp Gem is magnificently preserved, and the chocolate-brown surfaces reveal aqua and violet hues when they are rotated under a light.
