1863 3C Three Cents, Judd-319 Restrike, Pollock-384, R.5, PR66 Brown PCGS....
Judd-319 Restrike 1863 Three Cent Pattern1863 3C Three Cents, Judd-319 Restrike, Pollock-384, R.5, PR66 Brown PCGS. The obverse is similar to the Braided Hair large cent design that the Mint discontinued in 1857, only with the substitution of a markedly smaller date. The reverse displays 3 CENTS in the center surrounded by a laurel wreath with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA about the border. Struck in either bronze or copper with a plain edge. Restrikes are only distinguishable by weight, that is, about 119 grains for restrikes vs. 144 grains for originals. The fields on this piece are deeply reflective and the coin has light color overall. The brown and blue surfaces display a noticeable underlying red when held beneath a light. A problem-free example and nearly carbon-free. (PCGS# 60476)
