Description:
Gem Proof 1864 J-356a Copper Indian Cent
1864 1C Indian Cent, Judd-356a, Pollock-427, Low R.6, PR65 Brown NGC. The regular issue designs for the 1864 Indian cent without L. Struck in copper with a plain edge. Andrew Pollock reports this variety on thick planchets that are similar size as the copper-nickel Indian cents. Unfortunately, NGC did not record the weight of this piece, although we assume that they weighed the coin before finalizing the grade and attribution. Die alignment is about 345 degrees, meaning that the reverse is rotated about 15 degrees counterclockwise from a medallic die orientation rather than the usual coin orientation. Both sides have dark olive color with lightly prooflike fields and pleasing blue and lilac toning.
