Lovely Proof 1864 Paquet Reverse Quarter Dollar, Judd-3841864 25C Seated Liberty Quarter Dollar, Judd-384, Pollock-452, Low R.7, PR64 PCGS. The regular issue design for the 1864 Seated Liberty quarter was used for the obverse. Paquet's reverse features an eagle and shield, olive and arrows in the claws. Around, the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA with the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR below. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. Although the obverse of this pattern is exactly the same design that was used for the 1864 quarter, it doesn't match any known varieties listed by Larry Briggs in his reference of the Liberty Seated quarter series. The date is positioned farther left than on any known business strike or proof production pieces. It is believed that these pieces were struck in the late 1860s for sale to collectors. Both sides of this Choice proof are brilliant with traces of faint champagne color near the borders. The fields a fully mirrored with light contrast.
