Description

1864 L on Ribbon Indian Cent in Aluminum
Judd-361, PR65 Cameo
The Finer of Only Two Believed Known

1864-L 1C One Cent, Judd-361, Pollock-432, R.8, PR65 Cameo PCGS. Eagle Eye Photo Seal accompanies. This 1864-L Indian cent is struck in aluminum with a plain edge. Referring to the nickel, oroide, and aluminum strikings, the USPatterns.com website states: "It is unclear if these are die trials, regular issues or mint errors struck on leftover copper-nickel planchets." Only two pieces are believed known in aluminum, and this is not the Stack's 9/1989 coin (a cleaned example). The surfaces are bright and highly reflective. As with most aluminum patterns, the devices are thickly frosted and each side is notably contrasted.
