Description

1865 Pattern Cent Struck in Nickel
Judd-406, PR65

1865 1C One Cent, Judd-406, Pollock-475, Low R.6, PR65 NGC. Snow-PT1c Plain 5, obverse die of Snow-1 which exhibits repunching on the 1, 8, and 5 in the date. From regular issue Indian cent dies, but struck in nickel alloy with a plain edge. Rick Snow opines in his recent monograph on 1859-1869 cents that "All examples seen of PT1c [nickel alloy] are from the regular dies used later on the regular issue Plain 5 S1." A beautifully preserved and crisply struck Gem with faint gold patina, but primarily dazzlingly brilliant. The reverse die is slightly rotated clockwise. (PCGS# 60583)

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
