Description

Choice Proof 1865 Judd-441 Three Dollar Pattern

1865 $3 Indian Head Three Dollars, Judd-441, Pollock-516, Low R.7, PR64 Brown PCGS. The regular issue design for the 1865 three dollar gold piece. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. Two different die varieties of this pattern issue are known and they are identified as Judd-441 with the date sloping up to the right or Judd-442 with the date level. Examples such as this, with the date sloping upward, are though to be restrikes that were coined circa 1872, as the obverse was used for regular issue proofs of 1872. This piece, plated on USPatterns.com, has medium brown color with considerable green and blue iridescence.

This is a most satisfied customer's testimonial of a true gentleman in today's era. It is rare that one encounters through the course of life a person which one has read in childhood' s classics or seen in movies of old.
