1865 Three Cent Nickel Judd-414, Pollock-485, R.8, MS64 ...
Exceedingly Rare 1865 Three Cent Nickel Die Trial Striking1865 3C Three Cent Nickel Judd-414, Pollock-485, R.8, MS64 PCGS. Regular die trials striking of the 1865 Three Cent Nickel, struck in oroide (brass alloy with a superficial resemblance to gold) with a plain edge. This copper-gold example is sharply struck throughout and perhaps kept from a full Gem grade by a well concealed obverse spot over the top of Liberty's head. Only three examples of Judd-414 have been certified by PCGS (11/02), and Pollock lists the pedigree of only one specimen in his 1994 pattern book. Undoubtedly one of the rarest patterns in this sale.
