Description:
Interesting 1866 Pattern Nickel
1866 5C Five Cents, Judd-473, Pollock-564, R.6, PR 65 PCGS. The obverse depicts a bust of Washington facing right with IN GOD WE TRUST above and the date below. The reverse is similar to that adopted for the 1866-1867 Shield nickel with rays between the stars. Struck in nickel with a plain edge. Delicate apricot-gray haziness is noted on both sides, but the deeply mirrored fields shine through with undiminished intensity. The devices are suitably frosted and the overall appearance is moderately cameoed. (PCGS# 60669)
