Description

Transitional 1866 Shield Nickel in Nickel
Judd-507, PR65+ Cameo

1866 5C Shield Five Cents, Judd-507, Pollock-591, R.5, PR65+ Cameo NGC. CAC. A transitional pattern that lacks the rays found on non-pattern 1866 Shield nickels. Struck in nickel with a plain edge. The reverse differs slightly from 1867 No Rays business strikes, since a star points to the center of the first A in AMERICA, rather than between AM. However, some 1867 proofs were struck from this reverse subtype. Struck also in copper or bronze and white metal. This is a deeply reflective Cameo that has light, even reddish patina over both sides of this Gem. (NGC ID# 29L6, PCGS# 60703)

The outcome of the auction far exceeded my best hopes and would not likely have been as successful with out your sound advice on where to present the coin and how best to set the reserve. Throughout the process your availability , support and knowledge were exceptional.
