1866 5C Shield Five Cents, Judd-507, Pollock-591, R.6, PR66 ...
1866 No Rays Shield Nickel Pattern, PR66 NGC1866 5C Shield Five Cents, Judd-507, Pollock-591, R.6, PR66 NGC. A prototype of the proof 1867 No Rays Shield Nickel. Struck in nickel with a plain edge. The reverse die was later used to strike the proof 1867 Nickels, as the recut ball of the prominent 5 and the centered star below the first A in AMERICA are also characteristic of that issue. The dies are slightly rotated counterclockwise, and both dies have tiny center dots. A well struck and lightly toned specimen that has a few nearly microscopic planchet flaws (as made) on each side. A splendid addition to an advanced proof set of Shield Nickels. Population: 4 in 66, 1 finer (7/03).
From the Holman Family Collection. (#60703) (PCGS# 60703)
