High Grade 1868 Half Dime in Nickel, Judd-6381868 H10C Half Dime, Judd-638, Pollock-710, Low R.6, PR66 NGC. Regular die trials striking of the 1868 half dime. Struck in nickel with a plain edge. It is likely that both the copper and nickel 'trials' of this year were actually deliberately struck for sale to collectors. About a dozen pieces are known of the nickel die trials, including pieces struck on both thick 25 grain and thin 18 grain planchets. This is a brilliant piece that shows significant mint frost over the devices. Numerous die striations are noted in the fields and were not polished out of the dies prior to striking. (PCGS# 60856)
