Description

Gem Red and Brown 1869 Standard Silver Dime, Judd-698

1869 10C Standard Silver Ten Cents, Judd-698, Pollock-777, R.7, PR65 Red and Brown NGC. Standard Silver design, the head of Liberty is crowned with three large stars and the motto is placed beneath the bust. The reverse has 10 CENTS in the center, surrounded by a thick wreath of oak and laurel, at the upper periphery is STANDARD SILVER with the date below. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. The obverse is a fairly uniform cherry-red color, while the reverse shows a light overlay of brown patina. A bit softly struck on the highpoints, as one would expect since this design was intended for silver coinage (a softer metal). (NGC ID# 29RB, PCGS# 70923)
