Scarce Gem 1870 Pattern Seated Dollar, Judd-10051870 $1 One Dollar, Judd-1005, Pollock-1137, R.6, PR65 Red and Brown PCGS. William Barber's Seated Liberty design, with Liberty seated facing left surrounded by thirteen stars and holding a scroll and shield in her left (facing) hand; a short branch with leaves is in the other. A pole and pileus cap rise on the other side of her. The reverse is from the regular issue Seated Liberty dollar. Struck in copper with a plain edge. This is a lovely Gem proof with considerable reddish-gold color, and splashes of violet, deep-blue and iridescent toning. Fully struck and devoid of bothersome hairlines or contact marks. Population: 4 in 65, 2 finer (1/07). (PCGS# 71252)
