Gilt 1870 Ten Dollar, Judd-1035, Proof1870 $10 Ten Dollar, Judd-1035, Pollock-1170, R.8 -- Polished --NGC Details. Proof. Both the obverse and reverse are struck with the regular issue design for 1870 ten dollar gold coins. Struck in copper gilt with a reeded edge. There would appear to be no logical reason to strike a regular dies trial for the ten dollar gold piece in copper, aluminum, or nickel. Yet all are known. The nickel striking is believed unique, two or three are known of the aluminum pieces, and there are four or five of the copper dies trial. In spite of the polishing, the surfaces retain complete gilt. Sharply defined throughout. (PCGS# 61284)
