Description:
Condition Census 1870 Standard Silver Dime
Judd-850, PR65, High R.6
1870 10C Standard Silver Ten Cents, Judd-850, Pollock-957, High R.6, PR65 NGC.
Design.
Obverse Liberty Head with hair bun and star on headband, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around, motto IN GOD WE TRUST on scroll below. Reverse 10 / CENTS / 1870 inside an open agricultural wreath, STANDARD at the rim above. Struck in silver with a plain edge.

Commentary.
Much more elusive than its reeded edge counterpart in silver (Judd-849, rated R.5), this High R.6 plain edge pattern variant has an estimated 13 to 18 survivors. Although USPatterns.com merely calls both types "fairly common," the certified data tend to reinforce our belief: NGC and PCGS together have certified 39 examples of the Judd-849, but only 15 specimens of Judd-850--as always, less duplications.

Physical Description.
Pinkish-gold highlights visit both sides of this untroubled Gem. NGC Census: one PR64, two PR65 (including this piece), one PR66 Cameo finer. PCGS Population: seven in PR62-PR64, three PR65, one PR66 (11/08).

Provenance.
Ex: Bowers and Merena (11/1988), lot 5400.
From The Lemus Collection, Queller Family Collection Part Two. (PCGS# 61094)
