Description

Collectible 1870 Standard Silver Quarter in Copper, Judd-878

1870 25C Standard Silver Quarter Dollar, Judd-878, Pollock-975, R.7, PR65 Red and Brown PCGS. William Barber's Seated Liberty design with a Liberty Pole behind with a Phrygian cap atop and 13 stars around the margin. The reverse has 25 CENTS in the center and is surrounded by a thick agricultural wreath with STANDARD in small letters at the top. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. Approximately a dozen examples are known of this pattern, but very few can rival the strong eye appeal and high degree of preservation seen on this coin. Much of the original mint red color remains, although a significant portion of each side is now tan, pale-blue, or brown. A significant opportunity for the specialist in Standard Silver patterns. (PCGS# 71122)
