1870 3C Three Cent Silver, Judd-797, Pollock-884, Low R.7, PR65 PCGS....
Gem Proof 1870 Three-Cent Pattern With Half Dime Obverse1870 3C Three Cent Silver, Judd-797, Pollock-884, Low R.7, PR65 PCGS. A lovely example, in miniature, of Barber's Liberty Seated design, combined with the standard reverse for the three-cent silver coinage. This is an interesting pattern, for the obverse used the same die that was intended for the half dime patterns of this design, while the reverse was a production die for three-cent coinage. The two coinage varieties had diameters that differed by about 1.4 millimeters, meaning that the reverse has an extremely wide border for the size of the coin. This is a lovely Gem with pale heather toning and cameo contrast on the obverse. The reverse is mostly brilliant with just a touch of contrast between the fields and the devices.(#61040) (PCGS# 61040)
