Description

1870 Standard Silver Half, PR67
Judd-958, The Finest Certified

1870 50C Standard Silver Half Dollar, Judd-958, Pollock-1109, High R.6, PR67 PCGS. Standard Silver design showing Liberty wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY in raised letters. The reverse reads 50 CENTS 1870 in the center and is surrounded by the usual wreath of cotton and corn. Struck in silver with a plain edge. These interesting Standard Silver patterns were struck in silver, copper, and aluminum, both plain and reeded edge variants are known of each. This is a fairly obtainable variant, but this particular example is the finest certified at either grading service. This is a wonderfully preserved pattern. The surfaces of the coin actually show fewer problems than the plastic encasement! The fields are deeply mirrored, made so by still vaguely evident die striations. Each side is concentrically toned in shadings of purple, blue, yellow, and rose. Exceptional preservation. (PCGS# 61204)

If my clients were to auction something of significance, having Mike as the auctioneer would be a deal maker as far as I am concerned.
