Judd-984 Standard Silver Half Dollar in Copper, Gem Proof PCGS

1870 50C Standard Silver Half Dollar, Judd-984, Pollock-1104, R.7, PR65 Red and Brown PCGS. Ex: New Millennium Collection, Part 3. The obverse shows a Bust of Liberty facing right, surrounded by the peripheral legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and IN GOD WE TRUST on a scroll below. Liberty wears a diadem inscribed LIBERTY, and her hair is tied in a bun. On the reverse, the denomination 50 CENTS is centered in an oak and laurel wreath, with STANDARD SILVER above, and the date 1870 below. Struck in copper with a plain edge. This example is well made, with lovely golden-brown and orange-red surfaces. A single noticeable handling mark extends from near the base of the first letter A, in AMERICA, onto Liberty's forehead, and numerous tiny flyspecks are seen on the upper obverse. The reverse is blemish-free, and displays a small charcoal-brown spot near the center, just below the large number 5 in the denomination. Population: 2 in 65, 0 finer (7/04).(#71230) (NGC ID# 29Z8, PCGS# 71230)
